Hello ReelBloody fans!
Hope you all are having a great week and have an even better weekend here in a couple of days. I am fresh off my trip to Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, NC this past weekend so I needed a few days of recovery, but here I am back in the mix ready to bring you yet another review.
This week I had the chance to check out a film called Infernal. It is the story of a young married couple that has a child and things very quickly turn quite....sinister, I should say.
Infernal is written and directed by Brian Coyne and stars Andy Ostroff and Heather Adair as our married couple.
So on to the film. When I read the synopsis and saw that this was going to be another "found footage" or "home movie" style film I was like "Uggghhhhh not again!" Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I began watching Infernal. As you all know, the acting is a huge deal for me. There is nothing worse to me in a film than having to listen to dialogue that sounds like kids in a 3rd grade play memorizing their lines word for word. Well, in this case, Ostroff and Adair did a pretty good job of acting. Have I seen better? Of course, but I have seen much much worse recently, so I will say hats off to the cast for capturing me and making it seem real. The story was also well written. I gave you the overall plot of the film, and I really do not want to go much further than that, but let me just say that Brian Coyne did a great job not just writing this film, but transferring it onto the big screen...great job.
Good acting, good story, now what you ask? Well, my three keys to a good horror film to me are acting, story, and creepiness. I am not a huge gore fan. Don't get me wrong, I like some gore here and there, but creepiness is my cup of tea, and this movie had it. I do not have kids, and this film makes me wonder if I ever do. Good lord.... what a crazy situation they found themselves in. There are times in this film where things get a little slow moving, but then BOOM: creepy. I loved it!
Is this the best film I have ever seen? Absolutely not, but of all the films I have screened in the last 6 months, I would without a doubt put it in my top five, and that is saying a lot. Nice job guys.
Infernal is a must watch. You will not find yourself watching this one over and over, but I promise you if you check it out, you will not be disappointed.
I give Infernal 6.5 of 10 Cleavers. Well done guys!
