So most of you know that I attended the Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, North Carolina about a month ago and while I was there, I took the time to check out a midnight screening of the film Dorchester's Revenge: The Return of Crinoline Head.
This is the story of a group of college students researching Dorchester Stewart, better known as the infamous killer Crinoline Head, and they return to the scene of the horrific murders that happened in 1996. Of course nothing could go wrong....right?
Dorchester's Revenge was written and directed by Tommy Faircloth, who if I may add, is a great guy and just a flat out good dude overall. I was told not only by Tommy himself, but some of his peers, that this movie is the perfect "get drunk and watch this." and well, that is exactly what it is!
So on to the film. Jesus, where do I start? You know, I am just going to be honest. The movie is so bad, you have to see it. And I do not mean that jokingly...you really need to see it. When I say this thing is campy, that is a very bold understatement. When I say the acting was horrible, again: understatement. But there was just something about this movie that would not allow me to turn away. Not sure if it was the random use of transvestites, or the insanely ridiculous kills but regardless of what it was, I found myself entertained and today telling others to check it out.
So as a whole, the movie was not "good" but the story and the kills were entertaining enough to keep me engaged. As the movie went on, I asked myself a few times, "What the hell am I watching" but then I caught myself thinking about which friends I could see myself watching it with and who the first people were that I would tell about it.
So as I and the others who screened the movie found ourselves laughing at times, maybe it is Tommy Faircloth getting the last laugh as people like me are out in the world telling others about Dorchester's Revenge.
I give Dorchester's Revenge 4 of 10 cleavers from a FILM standpoint, but a 9 of 10 on a memorable scale. FIND A WAY TO SEE THIS FILM. PLEASE!
